Classes are held at 315 N. Bullard Street unless otherwise noted. All-day workshops include an hour break for lunch. Tuition checks are to be made out to the teacher unless otherwise noted. It is important to register at least one week in advance to guarantee a place in class that is filling up or so that you don't find that a class has been cancelled due to low registration. TWO DAYS TWO WAYS to look at mixed media collage - Sandy Urban
Friday/Saturday May 2 - 3, 9:00-3:00pm
Fee: $100 for both days; 1) We are going to use photos of one subject (your choice) to step off into an interesting collage that holds together as a work of art by infusing black, white, gray, plain and printed to enhance YOUR interpretation of the subject.
2) Next we will play around with small formats undertaking a variety of mixed media experiments to embellish collaged surfaces with stamps, stencil, paste, sand and glaze to develop complex interesting small works of art. There will be demos in the morning from 9-12. You may bring a lunch both days so you can eat lunch there and continue working if you wish. Work with assistance from 1-3 for both days. Please ask for a list of materials to bring to class!

FAMILY PLAY CLAY DAY

Fee: $60 all day; family member or friend special is $100 for two attendees; age 7 and under with an adult. Mask wkshp only: $40/family $35 each; Whistle wkshp only: $25/family $20 each. All materials and firing of clay work included in price. Make a ceramic Mask and a Whistle while learning the basics of clay: slab, pinch pot, coil, and surface adornment. Each sculpture will be later fired to completion, for participants to hang in their home or whistle at leisure!

DIAS DE LOS MUERTOS DIORAMA WORKSHOP
May 13 & May 20, 6:00pm-9:00pm
Fee: $80.00. Includes all materials, including 6"x4"x9" wooden box. First meeting we'll spend painting your box and building the "furnishings" for your scene. Try to come to first class with an idea for a scene in mind. For ideas, you could make it a very personal altar to someone, including yourself or your dog, depicting them doing something they love(d) doing in their physical life. . or somebody in a funny situation. We will create the scenario using, clay, paper, wire, paint, fabric, Styrofoam, found objects, etc. Second class we'll paint the details, finish the furnishings, and assemble the box.

DESIGN, COMPOSITION, COLOR - Crystal Foreman Brown
May 16-18, Friday 4:00-7:00pm; Sat & Sun 10:00am-4:00pm
Fee: $125. Come prepared to work with the medium and canvas of choice. We will be working out issues with your preferred subject matter. Bring several source pictures to choose from as well as some samples of your work to discuss on Friday night. Friday night will be an intro discussion and we will be working on Saturday & Sunday.

BEAD STRINGING - Melanie Zipin
Saturday, May 31 - Part I, 10:00am-12:00pm & Part II, 1:00-3:00pm
Fee: Part I or II $20 each, Part I & II $35. One of the many things for which Melanie Zipin is known is for her unique style of beadwork. Part I, Come learn how to do basic knotting while you string the beads you bring to class. You will also learn how to do basic earrings. Part II, Come learn how to use the flex wire, crimp beads, and some more complicated techniques such as adding dangling elements to you necklace design. Bring a towel, a beading tweezers, needle-nosed pliers, & flat-nosed pliers. Additional supplies should you need them are available for purchase at Leyba & Ingalls.

POLYMER CLAY CANING TECHNIQUES
Monday, June 2, 10:00am-12:00pm
Fee: $25. Participants learn basic caning techniques to make milifiori beads, jewelry, or sculpture. Sculpey canes are rolls of intricate designs that you slice like a jellyroll and can be inlaid into beads, buttons, boxes, glasses, frames, and more.

NON-TOXIC MONOPRINT/AKUA INTAGLIO INKS - Benefits MRAC
Friday, June 13, 1:00am-4:30pm
Fee: $50 (checks payable to MRAC). These techniques will be demonstrated: painting directly onto the plate, a stencil process (pochoir), a photocopy-transfer with non-toxic solvent and Chine Colle. Participants will get plenty of time to work. Bring a photocopy (toner-based) to use in your print.

BATIK - Melanie Zipin

Fee: $90. You will learn the batik process of fabric design using three basic dye colors. Come prepared to work, bring several pieces of pre-washed cotton fabric, and wooden stretchers to fit your fabric. There will be an hour break for lunch each day.

WOODCUTS - Phillip Parotti
Saturday, June 21, 10:00am-12:00pm & 1:00-3:00pm
Fee: $35 materials separate except for wood block - stop in for supply list. First Class will cover types of woods that may be used for woodcuts, design ideas, transferring designs from paper to wood block, cutting techniques, safety, and some hands on work in cutting the block. By the end of this period, the student should have reached a point where he or she will have a good idea about how to make a woodcut on his or her own time. Students will be able to begin their woodcuts during the class and the plan is for each student to finish the woodcut prior to the second class meeting. Second class will cover printing. This will include demonstrations of printing methods and individual guidance. If time permits, some discussion of making color woodcuts will be introduced.

Fee: $30 each class; $80 for all three. 1) SALT TECHNIQUE - 10am-12pm, Free flowing application of dye, and use of salt to create dynamic results, The price of one scarf is included in the class…if you are a quick worker, others can be purchased for $12 and include dye. 2) WAX RESIST - 1-3pm, Using wax as a resist, paint a scarf with silk dyes. 3) GUTTA RESIST - 3-5pm, Using gutta resist paint a silk scarf. Steaming to set the dyes will be demonstrated.

Fee: $150, Experiment with different layering & glazing techniques with an assortment of grounds & mediums. Explore why to use which mediums and when in order to get the results you're looking for. Some materials will be supplied, there is a supply list for those things you will need to bring to class. Bring a few samples of your work the first evening of class.
